As a special feature of the August meeting, guest speaker, Michael Tonsmeire, treated club members and guests to an interesting presentation on the state of brewing American Sours. Focusing on some of the changes seen in the industry of craft brewing over the last five years, Tonsmeire discussed challenges associated with production of sour brews as well as highlighting potential benefits seen with generation of this popular brew style. As an added bonus, attendees were treated to a tasting provided by the speaker in which the impact of yeast selection was demonstrated.
This month’s beer style featured the SMaSH brews. James Halabuk took home Brewer of the Month honors with Smithy SMaSH Lager. Heralded as a light, refreshing pilsner with appealing clarity and a hint of bitterness, this offering beat out competitors and will take its place as a sure fire winner.
