This month’s meeting was another well attended event that featured an interactive discussion of three additional off flavors. As a sequel to the March meeting, Peter Lex described three common flaws that could affect the taste of brew. Members were asked to sample beer spiked with flavors representing acetylaldehyde, oxidation, and bacterial contamination. After identifying the off flavors, strategies to avoid brewing pitfalls were reviewed. There will be no E. coli found in a 50 West brewing batch! New member, Peter Roberts, was glad to find colleagues who value good taste and clean lines!
Following the discussion, participants were able to wet their whistle with offerings from this month’s featured theme; the Belgian. James Halabuk took home Brewer of the Month honors with Wobbling Cobbler Witbier. After being greeted with the scent of orange, members were treated to a light refreshing taste with just the right amount of carbonation making this beer a winner!
